About
Hello, my name is Kayla. I could tell you that I’m an interior designer by day, and a soul-spelunker by night but that would be like, way too concise. So I asked some of my favorite people to describe me to you, partly because I wanted to know what it feels like to be a celebrity or a New York Times bestselling author, and partly because we often see ourselves in a much different light than others see us.
“Kayla is a bravely curious soul, traversing the depths of her emotional landscapes, then resurfacing to tell about it.” - Austin Louis Goldberg, Kayla’s romantic lover + occasional spiritual guru
“Astronaut of inner space. Emotional skydiver.” - Corey Pressman, Kayla’s friend + mentor
“Kayla is like the little mouse you find in your house, but instead of trying to find ways to catch her, she catches you first. She looks up at you, and normally you would get scared, but she radiates beams of love and compassion into your soul.” - Mallory White, Kayla’s friend + PNW adventure buddy
“She is “not afraid of the ‘dark side’ of human nature, and will bend the rules from time to time if [she] feels the need to do so. [She takes] particular pleasure in growth and life’s lessons…[is] not fond of superficiality, [is] passionate and can be intense.” - Kayla’s Cafe Astrology birth chart that she consults frequently for validation when assessing why she is the way she is, which is like, 90% of her waking hours, and attaching probably way too much of her identity to, but it’s like, always accurate
“1 star!!! I thought this was a blog about lesbian S&M and it’s just lists of things I’d send my sister!” - Kristina Schmalzer, Kayla’s misinformed but well-intentioned friend
“Kayla feels feelings like people wear their favorite jammies again and again. She’s really good at feelings.” - Kristina Schmalzer, after being corrected on the intentions of the Happy Girl Sad Girl blog
“Looks like she has it together on the outside, tries to have it together on the inside.” - Lauren Kaemingk, Kayla’s friend + main source of knowledge on what’s going on in the news today
“You’re crying over someone else’s [dead] blowfish.” - Austin Louis Goldberg’s words to Kayla on a typical weekday evening
“Happy and sad at the same time.” - Kacey Musgraves, in a song written about Kayla
